Draft Grade — Bears

FutureB-
Larceny in the Round 7 slot lands the Bears a B, Velling and all. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Bears were there to profit. Jack Velling, the No. 223 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 248. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. They are betting Grimes proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Keldric Faulk
In pick 16 they get juice off the edge, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick48
Rnd2
Joshua Josephs
They took Joshua Josephs at par in the 48th pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick80
Rnd3
Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick126
Rnd4
Samuel Omosigho
No drama and no debate, Samuel Omosigho went about where he belonged in No. 126. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick155
Rnd5
Le'Veon Moss
No edge and no loss on Le'Veon Moss in slot 155; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick194
Rnd6
Barion Brown
A tidy little value on Barion Brown in Round 6, Pick 18, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
Pick229
Rnd7
Tony Grimes
A reach for Tony Grimes in pick No. 229; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick248
Rnd7
Jack Velling
They barely believed it either: Jack Velling still on the board at the 248th overall pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
