Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Texans.

The Texans bet big and early on Kaytron Allen, 27 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

Getting Stowers where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.

They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Adding Ben Brown by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Sonny Styles
In No. 31 they get a three-down second-level presence at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 Christen Miller
Christen Miller at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick59 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
A clean, defensible pick in the 59th overall pick with a little surplus value in Jake Slaughter. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick69 Rnd3 Eli Stowers
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Eli Stowers in Round 3, Pick 5. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick114 Rnd4 Kaytron Allen
Kaytron Allen at slot 114 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick131 Rnd4 Jude Bowry
Jude Bowry slipping to pick No. 131 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The roster fit checks out.
Pick141 Rnd5 DeMonte Capehart
Quietly one of the better values of the day, DeMonte Capehart at pick 141. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick167 Rnd5 DJ Campbell
A conviction pick on DJ Campbell at the Round 5 slot that the board grades a round light. It fills a real need, too.
Pick195 Rnd6 Le'Veon Moss
Le'Veon Moss in Round 6, Pick 14 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
