Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall C+
ValueC NeedB TradesA- FutureD
The 49ers did enough to get by: C+.

The Princewill Umanmielen pick is the one that will follow the 49ers into the fall. They took him 40 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Sabb.

The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss. Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Hit on Derrick Moore and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Derrick Moore
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a disruptor off the edge, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
Pick48 Rnd2 Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton at pick No. 48 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick60 Rnd2 Caleb Tiernan
A real head-scratcher, Caleb Tiernan in the Round 2 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick80 Rnd3 DeAndre Moore Jr.
A slide stopped in slot 80, with DeAndre Moore Jr. worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick92 Rnd3 Monroe Freeling
They jumped the gun on Monroe Freeling, taking him earlier than his grade liked. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick93 Rnd3 Parker Brailsford
Parker Brailsford at the 93rd pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick94 Rnd3 Oscar Delp
Oscar Delp at the 94th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick95 Rnd3 Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles slipping to No. 95 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
Pick96 Rnd3 Keon Sabb
The board had Keon Sabb higher than pick No. 96, and the safety fell to them anyway. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick103 Rnd4 Domani Jackson
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Domani Jackson. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick105 Rnd4 DeMonte Capehart
They reached into another round for DeMonte Capehart, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick128 Rnd4 Evan Stewart
Evan Stewart is a better player than Round 4, Pick 26 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick134 Rnd4 Kage Casey
No edge and no loss on Kage Casey in pick 134; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick161 Rnd5 J.Michael Sturdivant
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for J.Michael Sturdivant. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick167 Rnd5 Princewill Umanmielen
This one needs a full-page explanation: Princewill Umanmielen in No. 167, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick174 Rnd5 Xavier Nwankpa
Nothing to complain about; Xavier Nwankpa went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick200 Rnd6 Dominic Zvada
A big swing on Dominic Zvada at the Round 6 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick206 Rnd6 Jalen Thompson
A wild overpay on Jalen Thompson in the 206th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick241 Rnd7 Jamari Lyons
A premium they did not need to pay, Jamari Lyons a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
