Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B-
ValueB+ NeedB- TradesC+ FutureB-
The Chiefs let Lew fall and pounced. Final grade: B-.

You build a draft on nights like this. Connor Lew had no business being available in pick No. 109, and the Chiefs did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. The back end got a real overhaul.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In the 9th pick they get a downhill hitter at safety at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Pick29 Rnd1 Sonny Styles
Good price on Sonny Styles in No. 29, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick40 Rnd2 Colton Hood
A tidy bit of business in the Round 2 slot, where Colton Hood graded well above the range. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick74 Rnd3 Germie Bernard
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Germie Bernard at slot 74 is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick109 Rnd4 Connor Lew
Connor Lew in Round 4, Pick 9 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick148 Rnd5 Beau Stephens
They did well to land Beau Stephens in the 148th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick169 Rnd5 Kaleb Proctor
Kaleb Proctor at pick No. 169 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick210 Rnd6 Ted Hurst
They robbed the room for Ted Hurst here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
