Tiabana DRAFTING FOR THEChiefs
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Chiefs: B-. Nobody else had Jack Pyburn anywhere near No. 210. The Chiefs did, by 71 spots, and that gap is the whole story. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
A whole weekend of picks and offensive lineman is somehow still a want. That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Mansoor Delane
In pick No. 9 they get an island corner at fair value. More want than need.
Pick29
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
In No. 29 they get a matchup weapon at tight end, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick40
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
No drama and no debate, Caleb Banks went about where he belonged in the 40th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick74
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. in the 74th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick109
Rnd4
Tyreak Sapp
Tyreak Sapp in the Round 4 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick148
Rnd5
Seth McGowan
A wild overpay on Seth McGowan in pick 148, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick169
Rnd5
Kevin Coleman Jr.
A slide stopped in the 169th pick, with Kevin Coleman Jr. worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick176
Rnd5
Oscar Delp
A conviction pick on Oscar Delp at Round 5, Pick 36 that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick210
Rnd6
Jack Pyburn
Jack Pyburn at the Round 6 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
