Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall C
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB
The phones sank the Vikings this weekend: C.

The Vikings went off the board in a big way for Collin Oliver, 35 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Getting Nash where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

If Nick Emmanwori and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick35 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori is a better player than the 35th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick66 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge at pick 66 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick97 Rnd3 Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander in No. 97 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick103 Rnd4 Gunnar Helm
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Gunnar Helm in Round 4, Pick 1. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick139 Rnd5 Dorian Strong
The board had Dorian Strong higher than pick No. 139, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick167 Rnd5 Nick Nash
Nick Nash at the Round 5 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick187 Rnd6 Jack Nelson
A tidy bit of business in the 187th pick, where Jack Nelson graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick189 Rnd6 Tyler Cooper
They paid a round early for Tyler Cooper in the 189th overall pick, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick226 Rnd7 Jamon Dumas-Johnson
They jumped the gun on Jamon Dumas-Johnson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick257 Rnd7 Collin Oliver
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Collin Oliver. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
