There is a lot to like until you notice interior defensive lineman is still a hole. The Steelers never got to the one that mattered most.
Landing Fashanu that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Reaching for Gray left real value on the table behind him.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 20 they get a blindside protector at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Xavier Worthy. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Max Melton at Round 3, Pick 20 is the proof. It fills a real need, too.
They went early on Cedric Gray in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A reach for Mohamed Kamara in slot 119; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Khristian Boyd at pick 178 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Joe Milton III at No. 195, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
