Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Browns answered their biggest question with Simpson. Grade: B-. Start where it matters. The Browns took Ty Simpson to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They banked enough surplus on Cameron to cover a lot of smaller sins. The cost of the Davis reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Ty Simpson
In the 6th pick they get the face of the franchise, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick24
Rnd1
Denzel Boston
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
No edge and no loss on Emmanuel Pregnon in pick 39; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick70
Rnd3
Devin Moore
Devin Moore in slot 70 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick107
Rnd4
J.C. Davis
They talked themselves into J.C. Davis at Round 4, Pick 7, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
Pick139
Rnd5
Kaytron Allen
No drama and no debate, Kaytron Allen went about where he belonged in No. 139. It fills a real need, too.
Pick144
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart in pick No. 144 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick147
Rnd5
Albert Regis
Albert Regis at the 147th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick204
Rnd6
Josh Cameron
Josh Cameron at pick 204 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick248
Rnd7
Jalon Daniels
The board had Jalon Daniels higher than the 248th overall pick, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
