Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Steelers: B-.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Steelers started one anyway for Cade Klubnik, 37 picks ahead of schedule. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

The Steelers indulged a want in Jones while a need in interior defensive lineman stayed open. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

They banked enough surplus on Johnson to cover a lot of smaller sins. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Jordyn Tyson
A slide stopped in the 21st overall pick, with Jordyn Tyson worth more than the price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick53 Rnd2 Cade Klubnik
Cade Klubnik at pick 53 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick76 Rnd3 Monroe Freeling
They talked themselves into Monroe Freeling at Round 3, Pick 12, and the board did not agree. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick85 Rnd3 Taurean York
Taurean York slid further than he should have, and the Round 3 slot is lovely value for the linebacker. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick99 Rnd3 Emmett Johnson
A quiet steal in slot 99: Emmett Johnson for less than the market said. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick121 Rnd4 Tacario Davis
Value with a capital V on Tacario Davis in the 121st pick, a genuine coup. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick135 Rnd4 Logan Jones
A curious use of the Round 4 slot. Interior defensive lineman needed the pick; an offensive lineman in Logan Jones did not.
Pick159 Rnd5 Nadame Tucker
By-the-book stuff, Nadame Tucker at pick 159 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick213 Rnd6 Gunner Stockton
Gunner Stockton at No. 213 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick214 Rnd6 Isaac Smith
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Isaac Smith. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick224 Rnd7 Jack Velling
Jack Velling at the 224th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick237 Rnd7 Tosh Baker
They took Tosh Baker at par in the 237th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
