Best value of the weekend goes to the Commanders for Hurst: B. The Commanders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Ted Hurst fell into pick 198.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
David Bailey
In pick No. 7 they get a double-digit-sack hope. A real need, handled.
Pick71
Rnd3
Jake Slaughter
The board had Jake Slaughter higher than the 71st pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick151
Rnd5
CJ Daniels
CJ Daniels at No. 151 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick187
Rnd6
Domani Jackson
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Domani Jackson at Round 6, Pick 6. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick198
Rnd6
Ted Hurst
They will replay Ted Hurst at slot 198 for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick223
Rnd7
Jeremiah Wright
Jeremiah Wright slipping to the Round 7 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick227
Rnd7
Zxavian Harris
A tidy bit of business in pick 227, where Zxavian Harris graded well above the range. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
