Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B+
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB-
The Bears turned the phones into found money: B+.

Nobody else had Tony Grimes anywhere near No. 252. The Bears did, by 35 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Hill. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 David Bailey
In the 20th pick they get a problem off the edge, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick50 Rnd2 Caleb Lomu
Caleb Lomu in slot 50 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick78 Rnd3 A'Mauri Washington
A'Mauri Washington in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick82 Rnd3 A.J. Haulcy
They did well to land A.J. Haulcy in Round 3, Pick 18, just ahead of his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick127 Rnd4 Charles Jagusah
Charles Jagusah at the 127th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick158 Rnd5 Jyaire Hill
A cornerback of that caliber at No. 158 is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick159 Rnd5 David Oke
Fair-plus on David Oke, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick232 Rnd7 Barion Brown
They paid sticker price for Barion Brown in No. 232, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick245 Rnd7 J. Michael Sturdivant
A reach on J. Michael Sturdivant in pick 245; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick252 Rnd7 Tony Grimes
They reached into another round for Tony Grimes, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
