Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB+ TradesC FutureA+
The Commanders kept it disciplined and banked a B+.

The Commanders did not so much draft Josh Cuevas as overpay for him, 27 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.

They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Terrell pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The Christian Elliss deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Avieon Terrell
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a press-man option on the boundary, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick63 Rnd2 Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter at pick No. 63 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick71 Rnd3 Jake Golday
Jake Golday at pick 71 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick125 Rnd4 Logan Jones
A straight-up fair deal on Logan Jones at slot 125, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick145 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Davison Igbinosun. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick185 Rnd6 Bud Clark
Bud Clark at No. 185 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick196 Rnd6 Josh Cuevas
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Josh Cuevas. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick223 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at the 223rd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
