The 49ers went off the board in a big way for DeMonte Capehart, 31 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. The board sounded every alarm, and the F is the fallout.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They will answer for taking safety early while quarterback went begging. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Getting Sabb where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.

There is no soft landing here; this class has to massively overperform just to matter.
