The Packers cashed the board's mistake on Caldwell: D-. Somebody took the Packers to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
If Endries pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They banked enough surplus on Caldwell to cover a lot of smaller sins.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick Analysis
Pick40
Rnd2
Brandon Cisse
They did well to land Brandon Cisse in slot 40, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick62
Rnd2
Jake Golday
Fair-plus on Jake Golday, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick84
Rnd3
Domonique Orange
Domonique Orange is a better player than No. 84 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick91
Rnd3
Drew Shelton
A reasonable price with a little left over, Drew Shelton in the 91st overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick94
Rnd3
Jack Endries
Jack Endries at the Round 3 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick120
Rnd4
Mike Washington Jr.
They read the board right and Mike Washington Jr. was the payoff at pick No. 120. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick126
Rnd4
Logan Jones
Logan Jones in pick No. 126 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick130
Rnd4
Jaeden Roberts
They paid a round early for Jaeden Roberts in the 130th overall pick, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick158
Rnd5
Domani Jackson
A clean, defensible pick in slot 158 with a little surplus value in Domani Jackson. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick199
Rnd6
Ted Hurst
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Ted Hurst in the 199th pick, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick236
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at Round 7, Pick 20 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick254
Rnd7
Jeff Caldwell
Taking Jeff Caldwell in pick 254 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick257
Rnd7
Cole Payton
You do not let a quarterback like Cole Payton reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
