Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall A-
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Patriots fleeced the room on the phones and earned a A-.

Whoever sat across the table from the Patriots should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.

The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The veteran additions, Bobby Okereke chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. Reaching for Nelson left real value on the table behind him.

Bottom line, with Ja'Tavion Sanders leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Ja'Tavion Sanders
No drama and no debate, Ja'Tavion Sanders went about where he belonged in pick 21. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick35 Rnd2 Keon Coleman
A straight-up fair deal on Keon Coleman at the 35th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick36 Rnd2 J.J. McCarthy
J.J. McCarthy in No. 36 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick37 Rnd2 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick49 Rnd2 Javon Foster
No edge and no loss on Javon Foster in Round 2, Pick 17; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick54 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at slot 54 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick67 Rnd3 Quinyon Mitchell
Quinyon Mitchell at pick No. 67 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick103 Rnd4 Tyleik Williams
They took Tyleik Williams at par in the 103rd pick, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick133 Rnd4 Jack Nelson
A reach for Jack Nelson in the Round 4 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick140 Rnd5 Malachi Moore
The board had cheaper options than Malachi Moore at pick 140, and it noticed. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick142 Rnd5 Mike Sainristil
They paid up for Mike Sainristil at No. 142 when waiting would have done the job. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick181 Rnd6 Jaylan Ford
A conviction pick on Jaylan Ford at slot 181 that the board grades a round light. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick218 Rnd6 Mario Williams
They did well to land Mario Williams in the 218th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick224 Rnd7 Storm Duck
Storm Duck in pick No. 224 is fair value, right on his grade. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
