Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall C+
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB+
The Raiders got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C+.

The Raiders did not so much draft Ar'maj Reed-Adams as overpay for him, 31 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. A mixed bag that lands at C+.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. With running back, tight end and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. McCoy falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

Hit on Jermod McCoy and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Jermod McCoy
In pick No. 24 they get an island corner, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick37 Rnd2 Nyck Harbor
Nyck Harbor at pick 37 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick38 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
A tidy little value on Jake Slaughter in slot 38, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick68 Rnd3 Carson Beck
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Carson Beck in Round 3, Pick 4. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick69 Rnd3 Deontae Lawson
They paid sticker price for Deontae Lawson in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick78 Rnd3 Harold Perkins Jr.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Harold Perkins Jr. at linebacker with running back, tight end and other spots open.
Pick89 Rnd3 Zakee Wheatley
Fair-plus on Zakee Wheatley, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick103 Rnd4 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
A real head-scratcher, Ar'maj Reed-Adams in the 103rd pick is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick133 Rnd4 Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun at pick No. 133 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick174 Rnd5 Xavier Nwankpa
They did well to land Xavier Nwankpa in slot 174, just ahead of his grade. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick191 Rnd6 Patrick Payton
This one needs a full-page explanation: Patrick Payton in Round 6, Pick 8, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick220 Rnd7 Pat Coogan
A premium they did not need to pay, Pat Coogan a notch or two before his time. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick225 Rnd7 Fernando Carmona
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Fernando Carmona. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
