Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall B-
ValueB+ NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The Raiders finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B-.

Start where it matters. The Raiders took LaNorris Sellers to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

Every board in the league had Carmona lower, and that gap is the story. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The Perkins Jr. pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, running back and other spots still on the board.

Brazzell II falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick29 Rnd1 LaNorris Sellers
In No. 29 they get a passer to set the clock by, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick37 Rnd2 Chris Brazzell II
Chris Brazzell II in Round 2, Pick 5 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick38 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Fair-plus on Jake Slaughter, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick89 Rnd3 Deontae Lawson
Value with a capital V on Deontae Lawson in the 89th overall pick, a genuine coup. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick93 Rnd3 Harold Perkins Jr.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Harold Perkins Jr. while clear needs at edge rusher, running back and other spots sat open.
Pick103 Rnd4 Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley at the Round 4 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick133 Rnd4 Davison Igbinosun
A big swing on Davison Igbinosun at pick 133, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick174 Rnd5 Xavier Nwankpa
A tidy little value on Xavier Nwankpa in slot 174, a step better than break-even. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick191 Rnd6 Earnest Greene III
Earnest Greene III at pick No. 191 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick225 Rnd7 Fernando Carmona
Fernando Carmona at pick 225 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
