Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall A-
ValueC NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureA+
Nobody dealt better than the Patriots this weekend: A-.

There is reaching, and then there is Kamal Hadden at slot 139. The Patriots jumped the board by 97 and dared it to prove them wrong. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.

Pick Analysis
Pick29 Rnd1 T'Vondre Sweat
In pick No. 29 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 J.J. McCarthy
J.J. McCarthy in the 34th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The roster fit checks out.
Pick66 Rnd3 Malachi Corley
Malachi Corley in pick 66 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick109 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
By-the-book stuff, Blake Fisher at the Round 4 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick139 Rnd5 Kamal Hadden
A big swing on Kamal Hadden at Round 5, Pick 3, well ahead of any board in the building. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick223 Rnd7 Bryson Nesbit
Bryson Nesbit at slot 223 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
