The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Patriots reached some 106 spots for Kamal Hadden, and value like that does not grow back. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

Everything downstream of J.J. McCarthy depends on J.J. McCarthy, and the building knows it. Burke falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Patriots indulged a want in Burke while a need in edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots stayed open.

The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
