Nobody else had Kamal Hadden anywhere near the Round 5 slot. The Patriots did, by 97 spots, and that gap is the whole story.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. McCarthy at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

The Patriots paired the rookies with proven help, Jaylen Waddle leading the way.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
