Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesC- FutureA
Good, not great, for the Patriots: B.

The Xzavier Henderson pick is the one that will follow the Patriots into the fall. They took him 48 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.

That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. However the rest shakes out, Marks at that price is a win they earned.

The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Matthew Golden
In the 17th pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Wyatt Milum
A big swing on Wyatt Milum at pick No. 38, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick49 Rnd2 Bradyn Swinson
They went early on Bradyn Swinson in No. 49, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick69 Rnd3 Azareye'h Thomas
A slide stopped in the 69th overall pick, with Azareye'h Thomas worth more than the price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick77 Rnd3 Tre Harris
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tre Harris at pick 77 is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick81 Rnd3 Gunnar Helm
They paid up for Gunnar Helm at slot 81 when waiting would have done the job. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick106 Rnd4 Cody Simon
Cody Simon in the 106th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick144 Rnd5 Andres Borregales
Andres Borregales in pick 144 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick171 Rnd5 Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin in slot 171 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick220 Rnd7 Woody Marks
They robbed the room for Woody Marks here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick238 Rnd7 Xzavier Henderson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Xzavier Henderson well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
