The Monroe Freeling selection is the head-turner. The 49ers reached 34 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The McNeil-Warren steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.

They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
