Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Steelers: B-.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Steelers would have aced it. Dominic Zvada at pick 209 is 68 spots clear of where he belonged.

However the rest shakes out, Lance at that price is a win they earned. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Christen Miller
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the defensive front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick58 Rnd2 Xavier Chaplin
Xavier Chaplin in the 58th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick79 Rnd3 Malik Muhammad
The board fumbled Malik Muhammad all the way to the 79th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick89 Rnd3 Harold Perkins Jr.
Harold Perkins Jr. in pick 89 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick99 Rnd3 Keon Sabb
Keon Sabb at Round 3, Pick 35 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick126 Rnd4 Zane Durant
Value said wait; Zane Durant in No. 126 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick134 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
They will replay Bryce Lance at the 134th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick164 Rnd5 Isaac Smith
Isaac Smith at slot 164 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick172 Rnd5 Chase Roberts
Chase Roberts at the 172nd pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick209 Rnd6 Dominic Zvada
They reached a country mile for Dominic Zvada at the Round 6 slot, and the board is aghast. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick217 Rnd6 Jamal Haynes
A wild overpay on Jamal Haynes in pick 217, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick243 Rnd7 Ricardo Hallman
Ricardo Hallman in No. 243 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
