Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Saints for Boerkircher: B-.

Somebody in pick No. 172 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Saints sat still while Nate Boerkircher, the No. 148 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Reaching for Allar left real value on the table behind him.

They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In pick 8 they get a downhill hitter at safety. Need was not the driver here.
Pick42 Rnd2 Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter in the 42nd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick73 Rnd3 Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick132 Rnd4 Drew Allar
They paid a round early for Drew Allar in pick No. 132, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick136 Rnd4 Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun slid further than he should have, and No. 136 is lovely value for the cornerback. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick150 Rnd5 Jaeden Roberts
They let Jaeden Roberts come to them and pounced at slot 150. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick172 Rnd5 Nate Boerkircher
Circle this one: Nate Boerkircher at Round 5, Pick 32 is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick190 Rnd6 Jaydn Ott
The board had Jaydn Ott higher than the 190th pick, and the running back fell to them anyway. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
