There is reaching, and then there is Patrick Payton at the Round 4 slot. The 49ers jumped the board by 53 and dared it to prove them wrong. Little went right, and the F does not pretend otherwise.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The 49ers indulged a want in Clark while a need in quarterback stayed open.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Love pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
