If confidence were a draft strategy, the 49ers would have aced it. Alex Birchmeier at No. 167 is 52 spots clear of where he belonged. A F, plain and simple.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

The Allen value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.

About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with quarterback still staring back at them.
