FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the 49ers this weekend: B. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The 49ers reached some 39 spots for Le'Veon Moss, and value like that does not grow back. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Getting Hunter where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Zion Young
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a disruptor off the edge, a steep price for the projection.
Pick82
Rnd3
Connor Lew
Nice patience on Connor Lew, who had no business lasting to No. 82. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick92
Rnd3
Lee Hunter
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Lee Hunter reach the 92nd pick and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick97
Rnd3
Jake Golday
Jake Golday in the 97th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick126
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch in pick No. 126 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick127
Rnd4
Keylan Rutledge
They did well to land Keylan Rutledge in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick133
Rnd4
Ar'maj Reed-Adams
Good price on Ar'maj Reed-Adams in the 133rd overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick138
Rnd4
Le'Veon Moss
Le'Veon Moss at pick 138 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick166
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Nwankpa at the Round 5 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick171
Rnd5
Bud Clark
Bud Clark at No. 171 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
