Sharo 13 DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
C+
ValueC
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A mixed bag for the 49ers, and a C+ to match. The 49ers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Le'Veon Moss at the 138th pick regardless, 39 picks early. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C+.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Rutledge pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Zion Young
Zion Young at the 27th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
Pick58
Rnd2
Michael Taaffe
Good price on Michael Taaffe in the 58th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick92
Rnd3
Daylen Everette
By-the-book stuff, Daylen Everette at pick 92 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick127
Rnd4
Eric Rivers
They took Eric Rivers at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick133
Rnd4
Keylan Rutledge
A quiet steal in slot 133: Keylan Rutledge for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick138
Rnd4
Le'Veon Moss
A real head-scratcher, Le'Veon Moss in No. 138 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick171
Rnd5
Bud Clark
A reach for Bud Clark in pick 171; a little patience would have been rewarded. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
