2024 DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the 49ers a B-. If confidence were a draft strategy, the 49ers would have aced it. Jordan White at No. 174 is 42 spots clear of where he belonged. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Joyner. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Isaiah World
In pick No. 28 they get a building block for the line, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick60
Rnd2
Nico Iamaleava
Nico Iamaleava at the 60th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick92
Rnd3
Keon Sabb
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Keon Sabb at the Round 3 slot. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick128
Rnd4
Austin Romaine
Good price on Austin Romaine in pick 128, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick134
Rnd4
Nic Anderson
No drama and no debate, Nic Anderson went about where he belonged in the 134th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick137
Rnd4
Monroe Mills
Monroe Mills at slot 137 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick167
Rnd5
Xavier Scott
Xavier Scott in slot 167 is fair value, right on his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick174
Rnd5
Jordan White
Jordan White at the 174th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick206
Rnd6
Quinten Joyner
They barely believed it either: Quinten Joyner still on the board at Round 6, Pick 30. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick241
Rnd7
Trey Leckner
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Trey Leckner in pick 241. It fills a real need, too.
