Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Texans let Lew fall and pounced. Final grade: B. The Texans did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Connor Lew fell into the Round 4 slot. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The Reid reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get a green-dot type in the middle. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
R Mason Thomas
They did well to land R Mason Thomas in pick 38, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick59
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
Steal is underselling it; Dillon Thieneman at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick69
Rnd3
Caleb Banks
Taking Caleb Banks in the 69th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick106
Rnd4
Connor Lew
Somehow Connor Lew was still sitting there in No. 106, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick141
Rnd5
Beau Stephens
A straight-up fair deal on Beau Stephens at the 141st pick, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick167
Rnd5
CJ Daniels
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, CJ Daniels in slot 167, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick243
Rnd7
Desmond Reid
The board had cheaper options than Desmond Reid at pick No. 243, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick244
Rnd7
Fa'alili Fa'amoe
Fa'alili Fa'amoe in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
