Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans won the night they stopped Rodriguez from sliding. Grade: B.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Jacob Rodriguez tumbling to the Texans in slot 106 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. If Claiborne pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the 28th overall pick they get a green-dot type in the middle at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
A tidy little value on Dillon Thieneman in pick 38, a step better than break-even. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick59 Rnd2 Lee Hunter
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Lee Hunter at Round 2, Pick 27. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick69 Rnd3 Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers slid further than he should have, and slot 69 is lovely value for the tight end. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick106 Rnd4 Jacob Rodriguez
They will replay Jacob Rodriguez at No. 106 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Pick141 Rnd5 Demond Claiborne
A reach on Demond Claiborne in pick No. 141; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick167 Rnd5 Febechi Nwaiwu
Febechi Nwaiwu in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick243 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
No drama and no debate, Trey Zuhn III went about where he belonged in the 243rd pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick244 Rnd7 Trebor Pena
They let Trebor Pena come to them and pounced at Round 7, Pick 28. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
