Draft Grade — Texans

FutureB
A solid, sensible weekend for the Texans: B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Jadarian Price, the No. 70 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 106. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
The Louis pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Jermod McCoy
In pick 28 they get an island corner, and a steal at that. More want than need.
Pick47
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
The board had Emmanuel Pregnon higher than No. 47, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Pick59
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Caleb Banks in Round 2, Pick 27. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick69
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
A safety of that caliber at the 69th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick106
Rnd4
Jadarian Price
Somehow Jadarian Price was still sitting there in pick No. 106, and they pounced on premier running back value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick113
Rnd4
Kyle Louis
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kyle Louis well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick141
Rnd5
Beau Stephens
They paid sticker price for Beau Stephens in No. 141, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick167
Rnd5
Kevin Coleman Jr.
Nice patience on Kevin Coleman Jr., who had no business lasting to the 167th overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick243
Rnd7
Jimmy Rolder
You do not let a linebacker like Jimmy Rolder reach pick 243 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick244
Rnd7
Jalon Daniels
They read the board right and Jalon Daniels was the payoff at slot 244. A need, and now a little less of one.
