Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B
ValueA-
NeedB
TradesB
FutureB-
The Texans let Golday fall and pounced. Final grade: B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Jake Golday, the No. 58 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 3 slot. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick38
Rnd2
Kenyon Sadiq
Circle this one: Kenyon Sadiq at No. 38 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick57
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
They robbed the room for Emmanuel Pregnon here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick59
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
Somehow Dillon Thieneman was still sitting there in pick 59, and they pounced on premier safety value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick69
Rnd3
Lee Hunter
Steal is underselling it; Lee Hunter at pick No. 69 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick89
Rnd3
Jake Golday
Jake Golday in the 89th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick106
Rnd4
Sam Hecht
They barely believed it either: Sam Hecht still on the board at slot 106. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick141
Rnd5
Beau Stephens
They took Beau Stephens at par in the 141st pick, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick167
Rnd5
J'Mari Taylor
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on J'Mari Taylor. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick243
Rnd7
Thaddeus Dixon
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Thaddeus Dixon in the 243rd pick, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick244
Rnd7
Zavion Thomas
Zavion Thomas at slot 244 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
