The Buccaneers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jake Slaughter fell into the 77th overall pick.

The Hill Jr. pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots still on the board. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
