Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall C-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureA
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Commanders and Cooper Jr.: C-.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Omar Cooper Jr. got past him. The Commanders do not have to explain a thing at slot 95. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C-.

The Foster pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

If Sonny Styles and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles slipping to the 31st pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick63 Rnd2 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in the Round 2 slot. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick65 Rnd3 D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds in the 65th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick71 Rnd3 Jadarian Price
Jadarian Price in No. 71 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick95 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
Circle this one: Omar Cooper Jr. at pick 95 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick131 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
Value with a capital V on Jalon Kilgore in pick No. 131, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick147 Rnd5 Albert Regis
Albert Regis in Round 5, Pick 7 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick187 Rnd6 Ted Hurst
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ted Hurst at slot 187. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick198 Rnd6 Josh Cameron
A slide stopped in pick 198, with Josh Cameron worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick217 Rnd7 Bryce Foster
They reached into another round for Bryce Foster, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick223 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Trey Zuhn III well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
