FutureB-
Grand theft in No. 29: the Chiefs steal Reese and grade out a B. The Chiefs did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Arvell Reese fell into slot 29. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The Stukes pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end, quarterback and other spots still on the board. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. The Thomas reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Kadyn Proctor
In pick No. 9 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick29
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In slot 29 they get a three-down second-level presence at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick48
Rnd2
D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds in the 48th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick74
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
They robbed the room for Omar Cooper Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick79
Rnd3
Derrick Moore
They read the board right and Derrick Moore was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 15. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick109
Rnd4
Treydan Stukes
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Treydan Stukes in the Round 4 slot leaves tight end, quarterback and other spots for later.
Pick148
Rnd5
Beau Stephens
They paid sticker price for Beau Stephens in the 148th pick, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick169
Rnd5
Kaleb Elarms-Orr
No edge and no loss on Kaleb Elarms-Orr in pick 169; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick176
Rnd5
Matt Gulbin
Matt Gulbin at No. 176 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick210
Rnd6
Zavion Thomas
They went early on Zavion Thomas in the 210th pick, and the value did not follow. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
