Powerful DRAFTING FOR THETexans

Draft Grade — Texans
Overall

TradesA+
FutureD-
The Texans won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B. You build a draft on nights like this. Brian Thomas Jr. had no business being available in No. 58, and the Texans did the only sane thing and turned in the card. The bottom line is a respectable B.
If Jackson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. On the needs board they went 8 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Quinyon Mitchell
In the 23rd overall pick they get a lockdown presence outside. Need was not the driver here.
Pick24
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
Fair-plus on Chop Robinson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick41
Rnd2
Terrion Arnold
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Terrion Arnold at the 41st overall pick is the proof. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick58
Rnd2
Brian Thomas Jr.
They barely believed it either: Brian Thomas Jr. still on the board at No. 58. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick59
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Edgerrin Cooper in pick No. 59. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick86
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
They robbed the room for Mike Sainristil here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick87
Rnd3
McKinnley Jackson
A big swing on McKinnley Jackson at slot 87, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick124
Rnd4
Isaac Guerendo
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Isaac Guerendo at the 124th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick128
Rnd4
Sataoa Laumea
Sataoa Laumea slipping to pick 128 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick236
Rnd7
Tyler Owens
The board had Tyler Owens higher than the Round 7 slot, and the safety fell to them anyway. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick245
Rnd7
Trey Knox
They read the board right and Trey Knox was the payoff at pick No. 245. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick250
Rnd7
Sam Hartman
Sam Hartman at the 250th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
