Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Texans.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Texans did exactly that with Ty'Ron Hopper in the 128th overall pick. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. They banked enough surplus on Rakestraw Jr. to cover a lot of smaller sins.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
In No. 23 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick59 Rnd2 Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at slot 59 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick86 Rnd3 Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara at pick 86 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick124 Rnd4 Isaac Guerendo
Isaac Guerendo at Round 4, Pick 24 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick128 Rnd4 Ty'Ron Hopper
They talked themselves into Ty'Ron Hopper at the 128th overall pick, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick236 Rnd7 Tip Reiman
Nice patience on Tip Reiman, who had no business lasting to the Round 7 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick245 Rnd7 Tyler Owens
Value with a capital V on Tyler Owens in No. 245, a genuine coup. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick250 Rnd7 De'Corian Clark
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for De'Corian Clark. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
