Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans let Washington fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-.

The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Tahj Washington, slot 247, roughly 59 picks past where he belonged. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They will need Lee to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick42 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
They took T'Vondre Sweat at par in pick No. 42, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick59 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
Good price on Payton Wilson in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick86 Rnd3 Mike Sainristil
The board had Mike Sainristil higher than Round 3, Pick 23, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick123 Rnd4 Theo Johnson
By-the-book stuff, Theo Johnson at pick 123 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick127 Rnd4 Justin Eboigbe
Justin Eboigbe in No. 127 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick188 Rnd6 Logan Lee
They talked themselves into Logan Lee at slot 188, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick247 Rnd7 Tahj Washington
Tahj Washington at the 247th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
