Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Texans.

The Texans spent real capital to be 34 picks early on Tanner McLachlan, and the board is going to hold them to it. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

The Cooper value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.

They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Kool-Aid McKinstry
In pick No. 23 they get a sticky cover corner. Need was not the driver here.
Pick59 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
They paid sticker price for T'Vondre Sweat in the 59th pick, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick85 Rnd3 Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick124 Rnd4 Sione Vaki
A reach on Sione Vaki in Round 4, Pick 24; the board had better options right there. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick128 Rnd4 Jaheim Bell
A reach for Jaheim Bell in No. 128; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick161 Rnd5 Luke McCaffrey
Circle this one: Luke McCaffrey at the 161st overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick236 Rnd7 Xavier Thomas
A big swing on Xavier Thomas at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick245 Rnd7 Tanner McLachlan
A wild overpay on Tanner McLachlan in pick No. 245, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
