Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Texans: B.

The Texans treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending slot 247 on J.J. Weaver a full 70 spots early.

Landing Wilson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

The Texans indulged a want in Sainristil while a need in offensive lineman, quarterback and other spots stayed open.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick42 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Brian Thomas Jr. at the Round 2 slot is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick59 Rnd2 Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in the 59th pick, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick86 Rnd3 Maason Smith
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Maason Smith. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick123 Rnd4 Mike Sainristil
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 4, Pick 23 on Mike Sainristil with offensive lineman, quarterback and other spots unsolved.
Pick127 Rnd4 Isaac Guerendo
Isaac Guerendo at the 127th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick188 Rnd6 Johnny Wilson
Circle this one: Johnny Wilson at slot 188 is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick247 Rnd7 J.J. Weaver
They left a pile of value on the table to take J.J. Weaver this early at the 247th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
