Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Dixon should have been long gone. The Texans pounced, and earned a B.

You build a draft on nights like this. Johnny Dixon had no business being available in the Round 7 slot, and the Texans did the only sane thing and turned in the card. No fireworks, but a solid B.

The Hopper pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
In the 23rd pick they get a disruptor off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick59 Rnd2 Quinyon Mitchell
Somehow Quinyon Mitchell was still sitting there in slot 59, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick86 Rnd3 Kris Jenkins
Steal is underselling it; Kris Jenkins at No. 86 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick124 Rnd4 Ty'Ron Hopper
They talked themselves into Ty'Ron Hopper at Round 4, Pick 24, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick128 Rnd4 Malik Mustapha
Malik Mustapha in the Round 4 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick236 Rnd7 Johnny Dixon
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Johnny Dixon in pick 236, plain and simple. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick245 Rnd7 Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
You do not let a wide receiver like Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint reach the 245th overall pick and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick250 Rnd7 Blake Watson
They reached into another round for Blake Watson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
