Powerful DRAFTING FOR THETexans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B
ValueA
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Texans for Gordon II: B. The rest of the league will want that one back. Ollie Gordon II tumbling to the Texans in pick No. 236 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Mason Graham
Mason Graham is a better player than slot 20 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick52
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
They read the board right and Tyler Booker was the payoff at the 52nd overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick84
Rnd3
Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander at the 84th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick121
Rnd4
Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter in the Round 4 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick164
Rnd5
Kevin Winston Jr.
They barely believed it either: Kevin Winston Jr. still on the board at pick 164. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick236
Rnd7
Ollie Gordon II
You do not let a running back like Ollie Gordon II reach Round 7, Pick 22 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
