Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans kept it disciplined and banked a B-.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: De'Corian Clark in pick No. 164, a good 36 spots before the room expected him. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

The Watson steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
In slot 23 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick59 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
The board had cheaper options than Payton Wilson at No. 59, and it noticed. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick85 Rnd3 Leonard Taylor III
Value said wait; Leonard Taylor III in the 85th overall pick says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick123 Rnd4 Malik Mustapha
Malik Mustapha at the 123rd pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick127 Rnd4 Jaheim Bell
Jaheim Bell in pick 127 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick164 Rnd5 De'Corian Clark
They reached a country mile for De'Corian Clark at pick No. 164, and the board is aghast. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick239 Rnd7 Blake Watson
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Blake Watson in slot 239. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick248 Rnd7 Tanner McLachlan
Tanner McLachlan in pick No. 248 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
