Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Texans for Gore Jr.: B-.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Texans watched Frank Gore Jr. slide 59 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

The McLachlan reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through offensive lineman.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
In the 23rd overall pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick59 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
They did well to land Edgerrin Cooper in Round 2, Pick 27, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick85 Rnd3 Leonard Taylor III
Value said wait; Leonard Taylor III in pick 85 says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick124 Rnd4 Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara at the Round 4 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick128 Rnd4 Sione Vaki
They paid up for Sione Vaki at No. 128 when waiting would have done the job. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick161 Rnd5 Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
A quiet steal in pick No. 161: Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick236 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
You do not let a running back like Frank Gore Jr. reach the 236th pick and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick245 Rnd7 Tanner McLachlan
Tanner McLachlan at slot 245 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
