Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Tampa should have been long gone. The Texans pounced, and earned a B-.

You could see the war room lean forward. T.J. Tampa at the Round 3 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. They will need Owens to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick42 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on T'Vondre Sweat. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick59 Rnd2 Braden Fiske
Braden Fiske in the Round 2 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick86 Rnd3 T.J. Tampa
T.J. Tampa at Round 3, Pick 23 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick123 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
A straight-up fair deal on Johnny Wilson at the 123rd overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick127 Rnd4 Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson in No. 127 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick188 Rnd6 Ty'Ron Hopper
Fair-plus on Ty'Ron Hopper, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It fills a real need, too.
Pick247 Rnd7 Tyler Owens
A reach for Tyler Owens in the 247th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It adds depth where they could use a little.
