Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

The Texans treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending pick No. 250 on Tanner McLachlan a full 61 spots early. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

On value alone, Wingo makes the weekend a net positive. The Texans indulged a want in Hunt while a need in offensive lineman, quarterback and other spots stayed open. For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
In the 23rd pick they get a premier pass rusher, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick59 Rnd2 Ja'Tavion Sanders
Nothing to complain about; Ja'Tavion Sanders went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick86 Rnd3 Mekhi Wingo
Mekhi Wingo at pick 86 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick124 Rnd4 Jalyx Hunt
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick No. 124 on Jalyx Hunt with offensive lineman, quarterback and other spots unsolved.
Pick128 Rnd4 Renardo Green
Renardo Green at slot 128 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick236 Rnd7 De'Corian Clark
You do not let a wide receiver like De'Corian Clark reach Round 7, Pick 16 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick245 Rnd7 Blake Watson
Blake Watson at No. 245 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick250 Rnd7 Tanner McLachlan
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tanner McLachlan well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
