Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Texans and Barrett: B.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Michael Barrett tumbling to the Texans in the 250th overall pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. Job largely done: running back settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

They trusted the board more than the depth chart.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick59 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper is a better player than the 59th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick86 Rnd3 Max Melton
Max Melton in pick 86 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick124 Rnd4 McKinnley Jackson
No drama and no debate, McKinnley Jackson went about where he belonged in No. 124. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick128 Rnd4 Renardo Green
A slide stopped in Round 4, Pick 28, with Renardo Green worth more than the price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick236 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. slid further than he should have, and the 236th overall pick is lovely value for the running back. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick245 Rnd7 Brevyn Spann-Ford
They did well to land Brevyn Spann-Ford in pick No. 245, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick250 Rnd7 Michael Barrett
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Michael Barrett in slot 250, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
