Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans won the night they stopped Melton from sliding. Grade: B.

The Texans did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Max Melton fell into slot 123.

If Logue pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They will answer for taking cornerback early while edge rusher, offensive lineman and other spots went begging.

Job largely done: running back settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick42 Rnd2 Malik Nabers
Somehow Malik Nabers was still sitting there in No. 42, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick59 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 27: Edgerrin Cooper for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick86 Rnd3 T.J. Tampa
T.J. Tampa in slot 86 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick123 Rnd4 Max Melton
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, offensive lineman and other spots to take Max Melton, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick127 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in pick 127 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick188 Rnd6 Logan Lee
Logan Lee at the Round 6 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick238 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
Nice patience on Frank Gore Jr., who had no business lasting to pick No. 238. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick247 Rnd7 Zion Logue
They left a pile of value on the table to take Zion Logue this early at the 247th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick252 Rnd7 Sam Hartman
No edge and no loss on Sam Hartman in slot 252; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
