Powerful DRAFTING FOR THETexans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Texans kept it disciplined and banked a B-. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Texans reached some 69 spots for DeMonte Capehart, and value like that does not grow back. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Getting Nwankpa where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In the 19th overall pick they get a No. 1 receiver, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick53
Rnd2
Donovan Jackson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Donovan Jackson well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick84
Rnd3
DeMonte Capehart
They left a pile of value on the table to take DeMonte Capehart this early at pick 84. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick120
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. in slot 120 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick164
Rnd5
Eli Stowers
They paid sticker price for Eli Stowers in Round 5, Pick 26, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick235
Rnd7
Xavier Nwankpa
Taking Xavier Nwankpa in No. 235 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
